WriteSocially Social Media agrees with Steve Haskin: This has been a most frustrating and hard to understand Road to the Kentucky Derby. The Derby Trail has rarely seemed so circuitous or so hard to grasp. Just when we thought ‘Our Derby Horse’ Mastery was taking the next step to stardom, tragedy struck. As everyone knows now, he suffered a condylar fracture that required surgery on Monday. Thankfully the surgery went well and he is on the road to recovery.

Wishing him the best. We pray that he will race again (connections will decide later if he will resume his racing career). It was clear from his San Felipe S. (G2) victory that he is much the best of this crop of three year olds, at least as of now. Bob Baffert mentioned it takes about 90 days to heal from this type of fracture. It may be late this year or 2018 before we know if Mastery will race again. Even if he doesn’t, we won’t soon forget his dominating San Felipe performance.
